Sistercraft Brooms are 100% handcrafted; we don’t use machinery. Our rustic brooms are made from all natural broom corn and 100% solid wood handles. As a result each broom has its own personality.
Baskets are a craft that we have chosen. We were not born into this tradition, but instead we have asked it to let us join. The Native American women of our home region Annishabee, the Iroquois, the Fox, the Sauk, and dozens of other midwest nations created baskets of function and of beauty. We seek to honor the history, to acknowledge the oppression of their art, and to celebrate the present art of these women basket makers by creating a woman-centric, gentle, sustainable basket making practice. We are constructing a sustainable tradition by using recycled and found materials and natural materials in our baskets. We will always let you know when our patterns have been influenced and shaped by another basket.
In our printmaking, we create lovely hand-stamped cards, stationary, and postcards. Carved into linoleum blocks and printed with hand mixed inks, no two prints are alike. The images we choose reflects our care for connection and our love of nature and our city.
In a world that privileges speed, mechanization, and reproducibility, our prints seek to offer an alternative that is unique and peaceful.
Sistercraft offers various other handmade goods. We use yarn, fleece, flannel, and other quality material in our blankets, afghans, quilts, and table decorations.
We would love to work with your colors, patterns, and designs to create a memorable [and well loved, we hope] item. We crochet receiving baby blankets on demand using the colors the new family would like.
We are excited to work with local entrprenures, crafters, and artisans. We encourage you to support them!
